U-Haul Art Fair doubles its fleet to 20 trucks for Armory week

Twenty rental trucks will become galleries on West 22nd Street in Chelsea, New York, from 25 to 27 September.
The U-Haul Art Fair in New York, a short selling event where dealers rent space to show work, will double to 20 exhibitors for its second edition, up from 10 trucks last year, according to The Art Newspaper. The dates overlap with The Armory Show in New York, the city's large autumn fair.
It is not the truck company. U-Haul Gallery, the organiser behind the fair, is unaffiliated with the U-Haul truck rental business. The gallery was founded in 2024 by James Sundquist and is run by a trio of Sundquist, Jack Chase and Lilia Muscarella.
The first edition parked 10 moving trucks on West 22nd Street in Chelsea. For this year, the organisers said they accepted 20 exhibitors from more than 200 applications. Each stand, the rented display space inside a truck, costs US$4,000.
The finalised list includes Southern Guild, Palo Gallery, Hexton Gallery, Post-Times and DivaCorp, among others. U-Haul Gallery will also take a van stand itself for a group show titled Breakfast.
The timing is deliberate. The Armory Show, held since 1994, runs 24 to 27 September 2026 at the Javits Center in Manhattan and lists more than 230 galleries, according to its website. U-Haul sits a short drive away and offers a smaller, cheaper alternative for independent dealers during the same week.
What makes this stand out is the maths. A low fee and a ready-made truck cut the usual costs of walls, lighting and transport. For visitors, that means a whole fair can be walked in an hour, truck by truck.
