Susan Sarandon and Olivia Colman Join Army of Shadows

Susan Sarandon and Olivia Colman have joined Army of Shadows, a six-part thriller now filming in Paris and London.

The casting was reported by Deadline on 22 September 2026. Filming is under way. Cameras are rolling in both cities.

Sarandon and Colman join a leading cast that also includes Paddy Considine, America Ferrera, Alex Hassell and Kit Harington. That is the central line-up named for the series so far.

The wider ensemble includes Leila Farzad, Luther Ford, Amara Okereke, Patrick O’Kane, Anjli Mohindra, Ed Ashley and Zoë Telford. They round out the company playing out the resistance story.

Behind the camera, the series is written by Ronan Bennett. Lisa Gunning is directing all six episodes. Alison Sterling is series producer, overseeing day-to-day production.

The story is set in a near-future authoritarian Britain. It follows resistance in an occupied Great Britain. It is inspired by Jean-Pierre Melville’s 1969 film of the same name and the Joseph Kessel book behind that film, according to Deadline.

The business structure spans broadcasters and studios. The show was commissioned by Channel 4, meaning the broadcaster ordered it for the United Kingdom. It is co-produced by Studiocanal and Two Cities Television, meaning the two companies are making it together.

Canal+ will release the series in its territories across Europe, Africa and Asia. Studiocanal is handling worldwide sales, meaning it sells broadcast rights to buyers in other countries, as reported by Deadline.

For viewers, the split tells them where the show is headed. Channel 4 holds the UK commission. Canal+ holds release in its own territories. Further broadcast details have not been announced.
