Andrew Phung will star as Pancho Dang in Curse of Undead, a Canada-Philippines horror-comedy from director Quentin Lee, and he will also produce the film, Variety reported on 22 September 2026.

Phung is an eight-time Canadian Screen Award winner recognised for Kim's Convenience and Run the Burbs. The new part puts him at the centre of a co-production, a film backed by production teams in two countries. He plays a struggling Canadian filmmaker whose big break collapses into chaos.

Then the dead rise. A Filipino sorcerer unleashes a zombie outbreak, and Phung's character must survive it while tracing a curse tied to the documentary meant to launch his career, according to Variety. The premise blends horror scares with comedy. It keeps one foot in Canada and the other in the Philippines.

The screenplay was written by Lee with Grady Hendrix, a New York Times bestselling author, from an original story by Lee. Roger Garcia serves as executive producer, a senior role that helps guide and support a film from development to delivery. Garcia is the former executive director of the Hong Kong International Film Festival and the Asian Film Awards Academy.

Garcia began developing the script with Lee more than a decade ago. That long run-up explains the list of names now attached behind the camera. Lee, Cindy Au Yeung and Phung will finance and produce the film through Margin Films Ltd., which is based in British Columbia.

Production is targeted for winter 2027, Variety reported. No cast beyond Phung has been announced. No release date has been set.

What makes this stand out is the pairing. Phung built his name on warm, fast-paced television comedy. Here that timing meets a zombie story shaped across two film cultures, with a director-writer team that has lived with the idea for years.
