Hasan Minhaj and Smriti Mundhra launch Bollywood Dance U on YouTube

Two rival Texas teams chasing a national title are at the centre of Bollywood Dance U, a four-part documentary series from Smriti Mundhra and Hasan Minhaj.
The series is set in the world of competitive collegiate Bollywood fusion dance, where student teams from US colleges build fast, synchronised routines around Bollywood music and movement. It was created and directed by Mundhra, according to Deadline.
All four episodes will premiere on Minhaj's YouTube channel on 23 September. Minhaj also narrates the series, guiding viewers through rehearsals, team selections and the run-up to the final contest.
That contest is Legends, the national competition for collegiate Bollywood fusion teams. The cameras stay with two Texas crews as they prepare to face each other for the championship. Two teams. One trophy.
Minhaj is an executive producer on the project, the credit given to senior figures who back a show creatively and financially, alongside Prashanth Venkataramanujam under Minhaj's 186K Films banner. The producing team is Mundhra, Maya Gnyp and Nina Aujla for Meralta Films, together with Joe Lewis, Rachel Eggebeen and Colin Miller for Amplify Pictures.
Lewis, an Emmy winner for 100 Foot Wave, is credited as a producer on the series, according to Deadline. The production was financed by Amplify Pictures and 30WEST, meaning the two companies provided the funds to make the show.
Mundhra is best known as the creator of Indian Matchmaking, the Netflix reality series about arranged marriages. Bollywood Dance U keeps her in unscripted storytelling, but shifts the focus from matchmaking to music, movement and college rivalry.
For fans, this means simple access. A YouTube premiere puts all four episodes in one familiar place, with no pay-TV package or streaming subscription required to find them. And the Texas-against-Texas shape gives new viewers a clear way into a circuit they may never have seen.
