Danny Boyle to headline London Film Festival industry lineup
Danny Boyle will headline the industry programme at the BFI London Film Festival next month.
The director and producer will be interviewed live on 9 October by Matt Belloni, former editor-in-chief of The Hollywood Reporter, for an episode of Belloni's The Town podcast, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter. The session will focus on two subjects. It will cover the state of the British film business and Boyle's work on Ink, a drama about Rupert Murdoch.
The Industry Forum opens on 8 October with a look at cinemas. Programmers Ben Lyndon, Carol McKay and Madeleine Mullett will discuss the U.K. cinema exhibition industry, the business of putting films on big screens. The panel is held in association with Screen International.
Costume design takes centre stage on 10 October. Designer PC Williams will appear in conversation with filmmaker Akinola Davies Jr. about building character through clothes. The event is held in association with Variety.
Fade In returns for its fourth edition on 11 October. Travis Alabanza, Gemma Bedeau, Paul Carey, Alice Clark, Alex Mathias and Carly Mills are listed for the strand. It supports new and mid-level talent working out a route into film.
Co-productions get their own session on 12 October. That term means films financed and made across more than one country. Producers Alan Maher, Adrià Monés, Dyveke Bjørkly Graver and Rodrigo Teixeira will discuss how those partnerships are built, with films including Fjord and Paper Tiger among the examples. The event is produced in association with The Hollywood Reporter.
Documentary takes over on 13 October. Hosted by Raul Niño Zambrano in collaboration with Sheffield DocFest, the panel will explore working with archives, old footage and records, while shaping a creative storyline.
The wider festival runs from 7 to 18 October for its 70th edition, according to the BFI. It opens on 7 October with the international premiere of Elsinore and closes on the evening of 18 October with the UK premiere of The Debut. Extra tickets go on sale at 10am on 1 October, with £6 tickets available for audiences aged 16 to 25.
For fans, this means shop talk in public. No trailers. No red carpet poses. Just the choices made before a shoot, a fitting or a release date.
