Original 'Rent' Stars to Reunite for One-Night 30th Anniversary Concert

Six actors from the original Broadway company of “Rent” will reunite to perform the musical in full for one night only.
Idina Menzel, Adam Pascal, Anthony Rapp, Daphne Rubin-Vega, Wilson Jermaine Heredia and Fredi Walker are set to take part in “Rent, the 30th Anniversary Concert.” The event is scheduled for Monday, Oct. 26 at Broadway’s Richard Rodgers Theatre. It will also be livestreamed, so viewers outside the house can watch at the same time.
The reunion was detailed Sept. 22 in a report by Deadline reporter Greg Evans. Producers said more than 50 past “Rent” cast members and special guests will appear during the night, as reported by Deadline. That puts the six original performers at the center of a much larger onstage company.
Additional alumni announced for the concert include Nicholas Christopher, Jordan Fisher, Renée Elise Goldsberry, Jai Rodriguez, Ephraim Sykes and Aaron Tveit. The announcement names them alongside the original six as part of the anniversary lineup. The plan is to perform the musical in full, meaning the complete show in one sitting rather than a set of highlights.
Original “Rent” director Michael Greif will direct the anniversary concert. The evening is produced by Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS and Andy Jones, founder of Baseline Theatrical. The livestream is produced in collaboration with The League of Live Stream Theater, which handles the broadcast to ticket holders at home.
Proceeds from the night will go to Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, the industry nonprofit that supports performers and funds AIDS-related causes. In-person tickets are sold out. They sold out in minutes when they first went on sale, according to a June report from TheaterMania.
One night only means exactly that. A single performance. No extension, no second date on sale. For the room itself, the advance — tickets already sold for future performances — is closed.
The remaining way in is the livestream. Livestream tickets are priced at $30 and are available at BroadwayCares.org, as listed by Playbill. Event pages from Broadway Cares and the streaming platform list an 8 p.m. start.
For fans, this means a full-length reunion in a Broadway house, led by the director who first staged it. Not a medley. The whole show, with many generations of the same musical sharing one stage for one night.
