Man charged in killings of American Idol supervisor ruled still unfit for trial

Raymond Boodarian, 23, will remain in a California state hospital after a judge ruled on Sept. 21 that he is still unfit to stand trial on charges of murdering American Idol music supervisor Robin Kaye and her husband Thomas Deluca.
Judge Maria Cavalluzzi issued the ruling at a progress hearing in Los Angeles County mental health court, more than eight months after Boodarian was first committed for treatment, according to Rolling Stone. He did not appear in court. The judge ordered that he be retained and treated at Patton State Hospital in San Bernardino County, where he has been held since January.
The court set a maximum commitment date of Dec. 19, 2027. An order allowing involuntary medication remains in full force. The next progress hearing is scheduled for March 22, 2027.
Prosecutors allege Kaye and Deluca were killed on July 10, 2025, during a daytime burglary at their home in Encino, Los Angeles. Both were 70. Investigators say they were shot multiple times with a firearm found inside the house, and their bodies were discovered four days later during a welfare check.
Kaye had worked on American Idol since 2009. A music supervisor selects and licenses the songs heard in a television show or film.
Boodarian faces two counts of murder and one count of residential burglary in connection with the deaths, as reported by ABC7 New York. Criminal proceedings are suspended while he is deemed incompetent, a legal standard that concerns whether a defendant understands the charges and can assist lawyers. If the case proceeds to trial and ends in conviction as charged, he could face the death penalty or life in prison without parole.
