Broadway Jumps 8% as Bowen Yang Packs Oh, Mary! and Titanique Says Goodbye
Broadway pulled in $27,070,361 across 26 shows for the week ending September 20, up 8% from the week before.
Attendance rose too. The houses counted 236,037 ticket holders, up 5%, according to box-office figures reported by Deadline.
Two new names on the marquees helped drive the jump. Oh, Mary!, with newly arrived Bowen Yang in the lead, sold out and grossed $1,517,710. Chicago, with Reece Weaver as Roxie Hart, filled all available seats and grossed $995,932.
Yang began performances September 15 as Mary Todd Lincoln, reported by Broadway.com. It is his Broadway debut. He succeeded Meg Stalter in the role.
The money followed him. Oh, Mary! posted the week’s second-highest average ticket price, meaning what each buyer paid on average, at $212.80. That was up $52.55 from the previous week.
Weaver also made her Broadway debut as Roxie, as reported by People. She is a breakout star of the Netflix series America’s Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders. Her arrival gave a long-running show a full house.
The week also belonged to a goodbye. Titanique played its final Broadway show on September 20 at 99% capacity, meaning nearly every seat was filled. It posted a best-ever weekly gross of $1,347,414, up $314,688 from the previous week.
That farewell put Titanique in the week’s top five earners. The five were Hamilton, The Lion King, MJ, Oh, Mary! and Titanique.
Hamilton led the list at $2,618,710. It also had the week’s top average ticket price at $245.75. The overall average across all 26 shows was $114.69.
Elsewhere, Buena Vista Social Club sold out and grossed $987,024. Jose “Candelita” Iglesias is starring as the Narrator for a limited run through November 15, meaning a set end date was announced in advance.
Two Strangers (Carry a Cake Across New York) grossed $640,447, up $121,211 from the previous week. School Girls; Or, The African Mean Girls Play took in $287,754 for seven previews, meaning performances before its official opening, up $17,293, at 99% capacity. Its opening night is September 28.
What makes this stand out for ticket buyers is the mix. A star replacement, a reality-TV arrival and a closing all landed in the same week. The numbers show each one found an audience.
For the season, the total sits behind last year. In the 17th week of the 2026-27 season, Broadway’s season-to-date gross was $541,387,201, down about 6%. Season-to-date attendance was 4,471,297, down 2%.
