George has taken the lead among royal-inspired names for dogs.

Dogs Trust recorded 534 dogs called George in its 2026 National Survey of more than 180,000 dog lovers. The charity shared the royal-names results exclusively with HELLO!, which published them on 23 September 2026.

Harry came second with 433 dogs. Louis was next on 194. Both sit well clear of the rest of the list.

William drew 48 dogs. Charlotte drew 18. Kate drew seven, while Catherine drew none at all.

King Charles III drew 11 dogs in the survey, and Queen Camilla drew four. Sophie was a strong performer outside the immediate top two, with 153 dogs. Zara and Peter drew 63 each, level with each other.

The figures come from a single survey sample, not from pedigree registrations. Dogs Trust, the animal welfare charity, runs the National Survey to track ownership habits across a very large response pool.

What makes this stand out is how uneven the spread is. George and Harry account for almost 1,000 dogs between them. The other traditional names trail a long way behind.

The Prince of Wales and Princess of Wales live with two cocker spaniels of their own. They are called Orla and Otto. Neither name appears in the royal-names ranking.

For anyone choosing a name, the message is simple. George works for a prince and a puppy. Kate, for now, remains rare at the dog park.
