Norway's royal family gathered at Ris Church in Oslo on September 23 for the funeral of Princess Astrid of Norway.

She was 94. The service started at 1 p.m. local time, as previously announced for the parish church in the capital's west end, according to Hola.

Journalists waited outside the church ahead of the service. Inside, guardsmen stood as a guard of honor beside her coffin.

A wreath from King Haakon and Queen Mette-Marit lay near the coffin. It also bore the names of Princess Ingrid Alexandra, Prince Sverre Magnus and Marius Borg Høiby.

King Haakon and Queen Mette-Marit arrived together for the service. The king greeted Sunniva Gylver, the Bishop of Oslo, at the church.

Queen Sonja attended. So did Princess Ingrid Alexandra, the king and queen's elder child. Princess Märtha Louise, the king's sister, attended with her husband, Durek Verrett, and her daughter, Leah Isadora Behn.

The funeral came during an official period of mourning for the family after the death of King Harald, Haakon's father.

Princess Astrid was the older sister of the late king. She attended his funeral service in Oslo on September 9. That service was held at Oslo Cathedral.

She died two days later. Reuters reported her death on September 11 at age 94.

Details of the September 23 service and the mourners were documented in photographs from the church published by Town & Country. The images show a small, family-centered farewell after two losses in quick succession.
