Prince Harry restarts AI speech after teleprompter fault in New York
Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, had to stop and restart his warning about artificial intelligence and children after his teleprompter broke on stage in New York.
He was making a solo appearance at the Clinton Global Initiative annual meeting, the yearly gathering run by the Clinton Foundation where leaders in politics, business and charity make public pledges to act. He got about seven minutes into the speech before the problem struck. He paused, put his microphone down and walked off the stage. A spokesman for Prince Harry confirmed afterwards that the teleprompter, the screen that scrolls a speaker's script in front of them, had developed a fault. Hello! Magazine
There was a wait of about 40 minutes. Then he returned to finish what he had started.
He did it with a joke. "AI got into my speech, so I was asked to come out and finish it," he said as he stepped back up.
The audience laughed. It was a neat line for a speech about technology.
His message was direct. He warned against pushing ahead with artificial intelligence too quickly and spoke about the dangers for children online.
