YouTube Music Adds Conversational Search and AI Podcast Previews

YouTube announced two AI features for YouTube Music at its Made On YouTube event: Ask Music, a conversational search tool, and Your Podcast Lineup, a personalized podcast guide. TechCrunch
Ask Music lives inside the YouTube Music app. Instead of typing a song or artist name, listeners describe what they want in everyday language, much as you might tell a shop clerk what mood you are in. It covers music and podcasts.
It searches more than 300 million songs, including official recordings, remixes, live performances, covers, and DJ sets. The system must keep original studio releases apart from alternate versions, rather than collapsing them into one list.
Ask Music also answers background questions and builds queues. A listener can ask who played bass on a track, then request a custom queue in plain words. Song playback and credit lookup stay in the same conversation.
Your Podcast Lineup is an AI-generated audio guide that will appear on the podcast page in the YouTube Music app. Each week it gives a short spoken preview of recommended shows and says why each might appeal to the listener.
From that briefing, listeners can move straight into a suggested episode. No separate browse, search, or subscription step comes first. Both features are coming soon to YouTube Music and YouTube Premium subscribers worldwide. YouTube published the announcement on September 23, 2026.
The broader context here is a shift from searching by name to describing intent. Listeners give mood, activity, or musical lineage and leave the matching to the system, which hides version clutter. In my view the podcast briefing matters more, because a short spoken reason to listen is quicker to judge than a text list, with one fewer click to start. The tradeoff for builders is extra processing delay, or inference latency, plus harder checks on relevance, credits, and rights. If YouTube gets that right, obscure recordings become easier to surface without teaching people to search differently.
