Harvey Weinstein has been sentenced to 15 years in prison in New York City for the 2006 rape of Miriam Haley. Judge Curtis Farber imposed the sentence in September 2026, when Weinstein was 74. Deadline

Prosecutors had asked for 20 years. His defence team had asked for 9 years. The final term sits between those two requests, as the choice of length rests with the judge.

Representatives for Weinstein said the sentence will be reviewed as part of the appellate process. That is a formal request for a higher court to check for legal error. They said he will pursue every legal avenue available.

The sentence followed a Manhattan jury's decision in June 2025 to convict Weinstein of sexually abusing Haley. Reuters That decision came after a longer route through the courts. In February 2020, a separate jury had found him guilty of raping Jessica Mann and sexually assaulting Haley. Reuters

That earlier outcome did not end the proceedings. The charges were sent back for a retrial, a second trial on the same allegations. Judge Farber set that retrial to begin on April 15. WBTV

At the retrial, the court heard from former model Kaja Sokola. She testified that Weinstein had sexually assaulted her almost 20 years earlier. AP Her account was presented as part of the prosecution case.

The jury convicted on the Haley count. It could not agree on the charge linked to Mann, who accused Weinstein of raping her in 2013. The judge declared a mistrial on that count. A mistrial on a single count ends that part of the case without a verdict because jurors cannot reach agreement. Los Angeles Times

In June 2026, it was confirmed that Weinstein will not face a fourth New York City trial on rape charges. Deadline That decision leaves the 15-year sentence as the outcome of the New York case centred on Haley, subject to any appeal.
