Richard Gere has entered a formal environmental partnership with Prince Albert II of Monaco, announced at a gala night in Monte Carlo.

The deal links the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation, the Sovereign Prince's charity for conservation work, with the Gere Foundation. It commits the two organisations to explore joint initiatives on environmental protection. In practical terms, it provides a shared framework to spot areas of common interest and exchange knowledge, as reported by HELLO! Magazine.

A framework of this kind does not spend money on day one. It creates a written permission to talk, plan and share information. That is often how charity partnerships start.

The setting was the 20th anniversary gala of the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation. It was held on 18 September 2026 at the Opéra Garnier in Monaco, the historic opera house in Monte Carlo, according to HOLA. Prince Albert II of Monaco attended with his wife, Princess Charlene of Monaco. Gere joined them at the centre of the evening.

Around 250 guests attended the anniversary dinner. The night marked two decades of the Foundation's environmental work. Twenty years is a long run for any private charity.

Gere attended as guest of honour. That title means the invited star placed closest to the hosts. He stood with Albert and Charlene for the official photo call at the opera house, a moment also carried in People's pictures round-up. He smiled for the cameras. Then he stayed for dinner.

He also put himself up for auction. Gere offered a private dinner or lunch with himself as a lot in the gala sale. Charity auctions work simply. Guests bid against each other in the room. The highest bid wins the prize and the money goes to the cause.

The room was full of familiar faces. Singer Christina Aguilera attended. So did Italian actor Monica Bellucci and Czech model Eva Herzigova. All three joined the Monegasque royals and Gere on the red carpet and inside the hall.

Aguilera took the stage. She performed during the evening's entertainment. Music is standard at Monaco's big charity nights. This one had a genuine headliner.

What makes this stand out is the order of events. A signed agreement came first. The glamour followed around it. For a Hollywood star to tie his own foundation to a reigning prince's charity is unusual.

For fans, this means Gere may become a regular in Monaco circles. The two foundations must now identify where to work together. That next step will decide whether the night was a one-off celebration or something longer lasting.
