Gina Rodriguez Steps Behind the Camera for Boxing Drama House of Guerrero

Gina Rodriguez is directing her first feature, a boxing drama called House of Guerrero, with Rosario Dawson and George Lopez joining the lead cast.
Production is now under way in Los Angeles and California's Imperial Valley, Deadline reported on 23 September 2026. Carlos Sanson Jr. leads the film as Alex Guerrero.
The story is organised around a family. Lopez plays Alejandro, an embattled ex-fighter and the father of Alex. Dawson plays Elsa, Alex's mother.
Rodriguez also stars. She plays Paloma, Alex's older sister, who steps in to train him. It is a dual role for Rodriguez, as actor and first-time feature director.
The original story is by Rodriguez and Bernardo Cubría, according to the same report. Cubría wrote the script, The Hollywood Reporter reported.
The film comes from Wayfarer Studios, 1Community and I Can and I Will Productions. Rodriguez is producing alongside Justin Baldoni, Deadline reported earlier in September. The pair previously co-starred on Jane the Virgin.
UTA Independent Film Group is handling worldwide sales, which means shopping the film to distributors in different countries and regions.
What makes this stand out is the tight focus. Four leads. One family. A fighter, his father, his mother and the sister who trains him. For audiences, that means the boxing ring shares space with home life.
