Beach Boys Cancel Four Comeback Shows a Day Before Return

The Beach Boys have scrapped their return to the stage a day before it was due to begin.
The group cancelled all four shows booked for September 24 to 27, which were meant to end a two-month break from touring, according to Rolling Stone. The announcement came on September 23. No reason was given by the band.
The cancelled dates were September 24 at The Big E Arena in West Springfield, Massachusetts, September 25 in Quakertown, Pennsylvania, and two shows on September 27 in North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. The Quakertown date was listed for the Univest Performance Center. The North Myrtle Beach dates were listed for the Alabama Theater.
Both venues told ticket holders the shows were off due to circumstances beyond their control. The Alabama Theater used the same wording for its two dates. Neither venue gave further detail.
The break had been called so frontman Mike Love could recharge after unspecified health issues. The band has played more than 40 shows this year on a tour marking the 60th anniversary of Pet Sounds, the 1966 album that remains its best-known studio record.
The tour has already been interrupted twice. A run of shows was postponed in early June when Love was reported to be ill with an unspecified illness. It resumed on June 14 in Chelsea, England, and ran through July 18 in Valdosta, Georgia, a stretch that included three nights at the Hollywood Bowl.
In late July, the group then cancelled 30 shows booked through late September to take a short break. That pause was announced in a post saying Love needed time to recharge, as reported by Billboard.
For fans, this means another wait. The next date on the schedule is October 9 at Grossinger Motors Arena in Bloomington, Illinois. That show is still listed as going ahead.
The current touring line-up is led by Love, the sole original member still on the road with the group, according to Consequence. Longtime member Bruce Johnston left the group early this year.
