Ariana Grande was set to return as Chanel #2 in American Horror Story Season 13.

Ryan Murphy revealed the plan in comments reported by The Hollywood Reporter on 24 September 2026. The storyline would have brought the worlds of American Horror Story and Scream Queens together for the first time, a crossover meaning characters from one series appear in the other. It did not go ahead because Grande's Eternal Sunshine Tour schedule got in the way.

Murphy had first announced Grande's casting via Instagram on Halloween 2025, alongside returning veterans. At that point she was the only newcomer in the announced cast, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Season 13 had been expected to premiere in 2026, according to Deadline. The season would have reunited Grande with Scream Queens co-star Emma Roberts, and fellow American Horror Story regular Evan Peters told Deadline in January that he was excited to work with her.

General viewers may know Grande as a pop star, but she previously worked with Murphy on Fox's Scream Queens in 2015. Scream Queens was a horror-comedy co-created by Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan and set around a college sorority hit by murders. Grande played Chanel #2, one of a clique of mean-girl sorority sisters led by Roberts as Chanel #1, with Billie Lourd as Chanel #3 and Abigail Breslin as Chanel #5. Charisma Carpenter played the mother of Grande's character.

She died early. Chanel #2 was killed off in Season 1, and the series was cancelled after two seasons. Murphy later said Grande loved her experience making the show.

That affection appears to be shared. Murphy said Roberts, Lourd, Lea Michele, Grande and Glen Powell all want to revisit Scream Queens. Lourd told The Hollywood Reporter she would be interested in returning as Chanel #3 in a revival.

For fans, this means the long-hoped meeting of the two Murphy universes came close. A touring clash stopped it, but the Chanels are still talking about another scream.
