Beta Film Takes Two Crime Dramas, Royal Love Story to Mipcom
Beta Film has picked up world distribution rights, meaning it will sell the shows to broadcasters and streamers outside their home countries, to two eight-part crime series, Italy's The Man from Milan and Ukraine's Silent Nava. Variety reported the deals on 24 September, ahead of Mipcom, the international television sales market held in Cannes.
Both crime series will make their market debut at Mipcom, meaning they will be pitched to international buyers for the first time. Beta Film is also bringing Swedish royal romance Queen Silvia to Cannes for its world premiere, meaning its first screening anywhere.
That premiere will play in Cannes' Grand Auditorium and will be open to the public. It is a big stage. Mipcom confirmed on 10 September that Queen Silvia would receive its world premiere at the market, in a screening billed as a special event. Mipcom
Queen Silvia is a six-part series inspired by the real-life romance between Sweden's Queen Silvia and King Carl XVI Gustaf. It is directed by Miguel Alexandre and stars Alicia von Rittberg and Edvin Endre. The series is jointly produced by Pyjama Pictures and Unlimited Stories for Prime Video in the German-Austrian-Swiss region and the Nordic countries, and for Sat.1 in Germany.
The Man from Milan is directed by Simone Spada and produced by Cross Productions, RAI Fiction and Beta Film. The eight-part Italian series joins Beta Film's sales slate alongside its premiere title.
Silent Nava, the eight-part series from Ukraine, is described as the country's first true-crime series. It is produced by Sfera Film for Kyivstar TV and directed by Dmytro Andriyanov.
For viewers at home, this market step matters. Shows usually need an international distributor to travel beyond their home channel, with sales setting where they land, when they are subtitled and how widely they are seen.
