Terence Winter, Dan Farah to Develop Series on UFO Investigator's Memoir

The Sopranos veteran Terence Winter is teaming with producer Dan Farah to develop a television series based on the memoir of former US intelligence official Jay Stratton. The project was reported by Variety on Sept. 24 and is in development, meaning no network or streamer has yet ordered it to series.
The book at the centre is Out of the Shadows. Stratton uses it to detail his work investigating unidentified anomalous phenomena, or UAP, the official term for UFOs, and what he describes as non-human intelligent life. It will be published by William Morrow, an imprint of HarperCollins, on Oct. 13. The book is not out yet.
Stratton held senior intelligence roles. He was Chief of Air and Space Warfare in the Defense Warning Office of the Defense Intelligence Agency. He later co-founded the Advanced Aerospace Weapon System Applications Program after seeing evidence of a UAP over a nuclear missile site. He also created and led the Unidentified Aerial Phenomena Task Force, the Pentagon unit tasked with studying unexplained sightings.
In the memoir, Stratton claims to have uncovered an 80-year cover-up of the existence of non-human intelligent life. He has also said in the documentary Age of Disclosure that he has seen non-human craft and non-human beings with his own eyes, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter.
Winter will executive produce through his Cold Front Productions, meaning he will help steer the show creatively and financially. He was a writer and executive producer on HBO's The Sopranos and won two Emmy Awards for best writing for a drama series for that work. He created Boardwalk Empire, which ran for five seasons on HBO, and earned an Academy Award nomination for best adapted screenplay for The Wolf of Wall Street. He is now executive producer and head writer on Tulsa King, the Paramount+ series starring Sylvester Stallone.
Farah will executive produce under his Farah Films banner. The publisher lists the book's on-sale date as Oct. 13, 2026, with ISBN 9780063384538, according to HarperCollins.
What makes this stand out is the pairing. Winter built his career on organised-crime dramas. This time the source material is a first-person account from inside America's UFO investigations.
