Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson will get an answer to the half-brother question before the first season of Brothers ends.

Showrunner Lee Eisenberg, the writer-producer who runs the series day to day, told The Hollywood Reporter that the finale will draw a conclusion about the story. It is the engine of the whole show. Viewers will not be left hanging.

Brothers is an eight-episode scripted comedy for Apple TV. McConaughey and Harrelson star as fictionalised versions of themselves. Apple TV lists its global premiere as September 23, 2026.

The premise comes from real life. McConaughey's mother, Kay McConaughey, known as Ma Mac, once implied she had relations with Harrelson's father, Charles Harrelson, around the time Matthew McConaughey was conceived. The two stars have been Hollywood friends for three decades.

The series plays with that possibility head-on. In the pilot, Holland Taylor plays Ma Mac and tells Harrelson's character about the possible relation. He does not immediately tell McConaughey's character.

Eisenberg said the television concept started with the two actors. He met them at McConaughey's house in Texas to discuss it. The project was already attached to Apple, meaning the platform had already agreed to develop it, when they brought him in.

That arrival followed a bumpy production. Filming was paused in June 2025, and Eisenberg then entered talks to join as the new showrunner, according to Deadline. He executive produces alongside McConaughey and Harrelson, with Natalie Sandy also credited as an executive producer. The series is produced for Apple TV by Paramount Television Studios, Apple has confirmed.

Eisenberg's credits include The Office, Jury Duty, Lessons in Chemistry, Stick and Little America. The Brothers ensemble also includes Natalie Martinez, Brittany Ishibashi and Nolan Almeida.

Apple hosted a premiere for the comedy on September 18, 2026, ahead of launch, and debuted a trailer in August. Harrelson also made a surprise appearance at the 2026 Emmys, crashing the stage during the win for Widow's Bay.

For fans, this means the first season is built as a complete story. Eisenberg told The Hollywood Reporter he hopes Brothers runs for at least another season. No renewal has been announced. The decision now sits with Apple.
