Tamera Mowry-Housley checks in for Scrubs Season 2 as Dr Steffie
Tamera Mowry-Housley has a new hospital job. She will guest-star in Season 2 of ABC's Scrubs revival as Dr Steffie, a paediatric doctor, as first reported by Deadline.
A guest star means an actor booked for selected episodes rather than as a full-time series regular. Steffie works in paediatrics, the care of babies and children. She arrives with clear advice. She tries to persuade Tosh, played by Ava Bunn, to choose paediatrics as her speciality, the area of medicine she will train in long term.
Viewers will not wait long. Season 2 opens with two episodes back to back on Wednesday, Sept. 30 at 8:00 p.m. EDT/PDT. That is 8 p.m. on both the East and West coasts of the United States. A two-episode launch gives a returning show two half-hours in one night to reintroduce its world and characters.
The casting news landed just days before that return. The announcement was published on Sept. 24, which puts it six days out from the Sept. 30 premiere. Late guest-star announcements are common when a season is about to launch and episode details start to lock.
Behind the camera, Aseem Batra leads the revival. He serves as executive producer and showrunner, the writer-producer in charge of day-to-day creative decisions. That title covers everything from story direction to running the writers' room and the shoot.
The series itself is produced by 20th Television, part of Disney Television Studios. Bill Lawrence, who created the original Scrubs, is back as an executive producer, a senior credit that can cover creative input, business rights or both. He shares that credit with Jeff Ingold and Liza Katzer of Doozer Productions, Lawrence's production company.
Mowry-Housley is repped by 3 Arts Entertainment, CAA and Delshaw. For viewers, this means a fresh face in the ward with a direct link to a younger doctor's future. It is a small role on paper. It could shape where Tosh goes next.
