Mamiya Shotaro to lead Japanese remake of Quiz From God for Prime Video

Mamiya Shotaro will lead Japan's remake of the Korean drama Quiz From God. The series will stream exclusively on Prime Video from 4 Dec. The date and casting were reported by Variety on 24 Sept.
A remake, in plain terms, keeps the core idea and builds it again with a new cast and language. This version is made in Japan for a Japanese audience. It does not continue the Korean story with the same characters.
The show will go out as a Prime Original, meaning it is commissioned for Prime Video and plays there first. That kind of exclusive is how subscription services keep viewers inside one programme library. Viewers will need Prime Video to watch it at launch.
Mamiya plays Hatsushima Haruto. Haruto starts as a neurosurgeon, a surgeon who operates on the brain and nervous system. He then becomes a forensic pathologist, a doctor who examines the dead to find the cause of death.
That switch drives the plot. Each case starts with a body. Haruto reads the medical clues to answer how and why the person died.
The Korean original starred Ryu Deok-hwan. It ran for five seasons, a long run that gave its writers room time to build an audience case by case. The format comes from CJ ENM, the South Korean company behind that first version, according to the same report.
Five seasons is unusual staying power for a crime programme. Most shows end after one or two. A long run also means steady work for crews, writers and supporting cast across several years.
For viewers, this means a familiar engine with a new face in front. Medical detail is a favourite tool of weekly crime drama because every result can turn a case. Here the medicine sits at the centre rather than on the side.
No episode count or release pattern has been confirmed in the reported details. What is confirmed is the lead, the role, the platform and the start date. The rest of the cast and crew list is still to be laid out publicly.
