Tokyo part-timer Hiroto is heading to television. The Hirayasumi anime will premiere in January 2027 on NHK General TV in Japan.

Viz Media and Shogakukan-Shueisha Productions shared the update with new footage, a key visual, meaning the main promotional image for a series, and details of the principal voice cast, according to Variety. Animation is by studio Production +h. International streaming plans have yet to be revealed.

Uchida Yuma voices Hiroto. Takahashi Mayu plays 18-year-old Kobayashi Natsumi. Aikawa Rikako plays 83-year-old Wada Hanae, known as Granny.

The story centres on Hiroto, a 29-year-old part-time worker living in Tokyo’s Asagaya neighbourhood. It follows his bond with his elderly neighbour Granny and the arrival of his cousin Natsumi, who moves to Tokyo to study at art school.

The new key visual places Hiroto and Natsumi in front of the one-storey Asagaya house Hiroto inherited from Granny. It also features Hideki, Hiroto’s closest friend, Akari, Natsumi’s fellow university student, and Yomogi, a neighbourhood real estate agent.

Suezawa Kei directs the series and handles series composition and scripts, meaning the overall story structure across episodes. Asano Naoyuki is the character designer. Nishimura Mika is the art director and Sawada Kaori composes the music.

Hirayasumi began as a manga by Shinzo Keigo, serialised in Shogakukan’s Weekly Big Comic Spirits from 2021. The manga spans 10 volumes with more than 1.7 million copies in print worldwide. It won best serial comic at Lucca Comics & Games 2024 and the 71st Shogakukan Manga Award.

For viewers outside Japan, this means a wait for access. Viz Media and Japan Society will screen the world premiere on 7 October, according to Anime News Network. An earlier teaser visual focused on protagonist Hiroto Ikuta and Hanae Wada, or Baa-chan, according to Crunchyroll.
