"Diana, Princess of Wales, told royal author Ingrid Seward that she “really loved Charles”.

Seward shared the memory at a live recording of HELLO!’s royal podcast, A Right Royal Podcast. She said Diana said the words to her directly during a meeting shortly before Diana’s death in 1997. HELLO!

The room got quiet.

The event was held on 23 September at Quaglino’s in London. It brought Seward together with hosts Emily Nash, Emmy Griffiths and Andrea Caamaño for an exclusive live edition of the show. HELLO! on Facebook It took place one day before the release of Seward’s latest book.

The book is called Catherine & Diana. It pairs the story of Diana with that of Catherine, Princess of Wales, and was billed by the hosts as a way to understand the real Kate. Seward read an extract from the book during the recording.

Guests got their turn too. Audience members joined a live Q&A with Seward and the three presenters, putting questions to the panel in person.

Seward has written about the Royal Family for decades. At the event, she said she was probably the last journalist to see Diana in a journalistic capacity before she died. She did not present it as a formal interview, but as a professional meeting in those final weeks.

The conversation also turned to Earl Spencer’s memoir. Charles Spencer, 9th Earl Spencer, is Diana’s younger brother, and his book contains claims about King Charles III. Seward discussed those claims with the hosts, giving her own view from years of royal reporting.

What makes this stand out is the timing. The live show was staged as a launch celebration, with the book arriving the next day. For fans, this means the podcast episode doubles as a first taster, with the extract, the Q&A and the Diana memories all heard live before readers open page one. "
