Restored '9 to 5' returns to theatres for one week for children's books charity

Dolly Parton, Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin are returning to the big screen. A newly restored version of their 1980 workplace comedy 9 to 5 will play in theatres for one week, from October 9 to October 15, released by 20th Century Studios, according to Deadline.
Tickets are on sale now. The booking is a limited engagement, meaning a short, set run rather than a full release. It gives audiences seven days to catch the restoration in a cinema.
There is a charitable link. Disney will donate net proceeds, the money left after costs are covered, from each US ticket purchase to The Dollywood Foundation, according to Deadline. The money will support Parton's Imagination Library, the programme that posts free books to young children.
The timing was deliberate. The re-release was announced on September 25, observed annually as Give Like Dolly Day. Disney said its celebration of Parton's legacy also includes a CMA tribute special alongside the return of 9 to 5, according to Disney.
The October run follows other charity screenings built around Parton's films. Regal expanded its Dolly Parton benefit screenings to more than 200 theatres nationwide, with the screenings running September 4 to September 9, according to WBKO. All ticket proceeds from that Regal run funded free books for children through the Imagination Library.
Local cinemas have joined in too. The Capitol Theatre in Greeneville announced a Dolly Day celebration on September 25 with a screening of 9 to 5, according to the Greeneville Sun. That event sits separately from the October restoration run.
For fans, this means two things at once. They can see the office-revenge story with an audience. And each US ticket from the October dates puts money toward children's books.
