J.D. and Elliot are seeing other people when the Scrubs revival returns to ABC for Season 2. The exes, played by Zach Braff and Sarah Chalke, each pick up a significant other as the hospital comedy continues, Deadline reported on 25 September.

Scott Foley is back as Sean Kelly, the marine biologist who drifted in and out of Elliot's life in the original run. He previously appeared in Seasons 1, 3 and 8, Deadline reported. Season 2 rekindles that on-again, off-again romance.

Rachel Bilson is also back as Charlie for an arc, meaning a run of several episodes. Charlie arrived as a hospital visitor who clicked with J.D. in the Season 1 finale. Season 2 turns that spark into a full relationship. They hard-launch. They go public fast.

Bilson is set to get more screen time this season, Deadline reported. Braff said J.D. pursues Charlie fast and furious. His best friend steps in. Donald Faison, who plays Christopher "Turk" Turk, warns J.D. he is going too fast and needs to calm down.

That courtship rattles Turk for a different reason. Faison said watching J.D. go all-in makes Turk realise he has coasted in his own marriage. His routine has become movie, bed and work. He has stopped being romantic with his wife.

Braff said the first three episodes set up that contrast as a running thread. J.D. is a bachelor again. Turk has been in a long-term relationship for years. Elliot is dipping her toe back into dating.

Elliot does not start Season 2 single. She is still with Wes, a pilot, when the season opens. Then Sean walks back in. Chalke said Elliot feels confident as a doctor in the revival, and Sean's return shakes her. Old neuroses flare back up.

That jealousy has history. The J.D.-Elliot-Sean triangle gave J.D. his signature line: "Nobody cares, Sean." Chalke said the writers leaned into that dynamic to bring Elliot's anxious behaviour back out.

For fans, this sets up two very different love stories side by side. J.D. charges ahead. Elliot wobbles. And Turk watches both and takes a hard look at his own marriage.
