Endgame Encore takes early lead with $3.8m previews

Avengers: Endgame Encore has jumped to an early lead in a crowded weekend at domestic theatres, the United States and Canada.
The film earned $3.8 million in domestic previews ahead of its opening on 25 September 2026, as reported by Variety on that date. That start puts it ahead of three other new releases. It is projected to earn $25 million to $28 million for the weekend.
That range would put it in a close fight with Sony's Resident Evil. Resident Evil opened with $61 million last week, according to the same report. It is targeting $24 million to $26 million in its second weekend as it attempts to stay No. 1.
Encore is a re-release of the 2019 Marvel blockbuster. Marvel said the return to theatres begins 25 September 2026, in a notice on Marvel. The new version adds scenes and carries an exclusive sneak peek at Avengers: Doomsday, due in December, Marvel confirmed in a separate interview.
The weekend has three other wide challengers. Primetime earned $2.7 million in domestic previews, Heart of the Beast took $2 million and Forgotten Island made $1.5 million, Variety reported on 25 September 2026.
Primetime and Heart of the Beast are each projected to open with $17 million to $20 million. Forgotten Island is aiming for $15 million to $17 million. Primetime stars Robert Pattinson as To Catch a Predator host Chris Hansen and is directed by Lance Oppenheim.
What makes this stand out is the mix. One re-release with new material is opening against three fresh titles and a horror holdover. For fans, this means choice. Four different films are chasing the same weekend crowd.
