Avengers: Endgame Encore pulls in $86 million worldwide in re-release

A seven-year-old Marvel movie is No. 1 at the box office again.
Disney estimated on Sunday, 27 September 2026, that “Avengers: Endgame Encore” collected $86 million worldwide in its opening weekend, studio estimates ahead of Monday’s actuals, Variety reported. That total topped both the domestic and global charts ahead of new releases.
The split was $26 million in North America, meaning the United States and Canada, and $60 million overseas. The reissue played in 3,060 theatres in North America, according to Deadline, after earning $3.8 million in Thursday previews, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Marvel Studios put the film back in theatres beginning 25 September 2026, Marvel announced.
The numbers lift the film’s lifetime total sharply. Before the re-release, “Avengers: Endgame” had grossed $2.79 billion worldwide. After the weekend, that total reached $2.88 billion.
It now sits $39 million behind “Avatar” from 2009, the biggest worldwide release of all time with $2.9 billion. In North America, “Endgame” stands at $884 million, the third-largest North American release on record. It also became only the second film ever to clear $2 billion at the international box office.
Disney and Marvel reissued the film to build excitement for “Avengers: Doomsday,” which opens in December. The new film is directed by Anthony and Joe Russo and will be the 39th entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. That series has grossed $35.07 billion across all its movies, a run most recently boosted by “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” with $2.2 billion.
“Doomsday” brings back Robert Downey Jr., but not as Iron Man. He plays villain Doctor Doom.
“Encore” was not a straight replay. Disney added new footage and used the outing to introduce “Infinity Vision,” its premium large-format certification. The label is not a new projection technology. Disney says it guarantees theatres meet rigorous technical standards.
That large-format push matters for December. “Avengers: Doomsday” will not have Imax screens because “Dune: Part III” opens the same day with the entire Imax footprint exclusively for three weeks.
What makes this stand out is the timing. Late September is usually quiet. This weekend led by “Endgame Encore” ranked as the second-best late September weekend ever for cinemas.
