Begin Again Films takes world sales on Brazilian basketball biopic Paula & Hortência

Spain's Begin Again Films has picked up international sales rights to 'Paula & Hortência – The Last Chance', as reported by Variety. In plain terms, it will sell the film to distributors in different countries and territories. The deal was disclosed on 25 September 2026.
The film is directed by Georgia Guerra-Peixe Joca and centres on Brazilian women's basketball legends Paula and Hortência. Tainá Müller and Juliana Didone will play the two players, according to Variety. The script is by Patricia Corso, and the story is told through Paula's eyes.
The real-life pair led Brazil to the world title in Australia in 1994. Two years later they took silver at the Olympic Games in Atlanta in 1996. Those two results made them household names at home and familiar faces to basketball fans abroad.
The film dramatises the road to those 1996 Games. Hortência had retired from the national team and had recently become a mother. Then came the call to return. It is a short window, with fitness, selection and timing all working against her.
What makes this stand out for newcomers is the viewpoint. Viewers follow Hortência's comeback through Paula's perspective, teammate to teammate. No prior knowledge of the sport is needed. The hook is simple: two colleagues chasing one last chance together.
The production brings together companies from three countries. It is produced by Café Royal alongside Trema and US-based Belladonna, Variety reported. Trema is a newly founded banner from 'The Last Trail' director Gabriel Mascaro and producer Paula Cosenza. That mix pairs an established Brazilian production house with a new creative outfit and an American partner.
Begin Again Films, based in Spain, will now shop the title to buyers around the world. Its international sales and acquisitions operation is headed by co-CEO Gloria Bretones. For general readers, a sales agent of this kind acts as the middleman between a film's producers and the local distributors who put it into cinemas.
The film is slated for release in the second half of 2027. That date leaves more than a year for deals to be closed, dubbing and subtitling to be organised, and local release plans to be fixed. More casting, filming updates and festival plans are likely to follow as that window approaches.
