Adults star Rachel Marsh built Carly's pop single Hiccup from scratch

Rachel Marsh made a real pop song for her fictional pop-star turn. The actor wrote and recorded “Hiccup” for Season 2 of the FX comedy Adults, where she plays dental assistant Carly, Deadline reported.
The song lands in the episode titled “Pop Girlie”. In the story, Carly decides to chase pop stardom while she waits for her dental school exam results. She releases “Hiccup” as her debut. Malik Elassal plays Samir, Carly’s boyfriend.
Marsh built the track with director Paul Briganti. The pair tried all different versions before settling on the final cut. Briganti is a former Saturday Night Live video director, according to Yahoo.
It was a hands-on job. Marsh performs the song in character. The production had to work twice over, as a plot point in the episode and as a complete single listeners could play outside the show.
For fans, this means Carly’s music career does not stop at a joke scene. The storyline gives Marsh, already known to many viewers from the romantic-comedy The Love Hypothesis on Prime Video, a full performance showcase inside the season.
The work drew notice from the show’s team. Co-creator Ben Kronengold said Marsh gives one of his favourite performances of the season in Season 2, Collider reported.
