Crew Girl Renewed for Season 2 as Miku Martineau Pitches All-Girls Team
Netflix will bring back “Crew Girl” for a second season, and star Miku Martineau already knows where she wants the story to row next.
The second-season order, meaning Netflix has commissioned another run of episodes, follows a fast start. The series was released on Sept. 10 and has stayed in Netflix’s English TV Top 10 since release, with more than 16 million views in its first two weeks, according to Variety. That count covers the first fortnight of availability.
Martineau, 22, plays 16-year-old Teagan Tao. Teagan is a Southern California native whose family relocates to her mother’s hometown after her father’s financial fraud. She arrives in Eagles Cove and joins the all-boys crew team at Easton Academy as coxswain, the teammate who steers the boat and sets the rhythm.
Netflix describes the premise as a teen rower who moves to a small town and joins an elite prep school’s all-boys crew. Jessica Paré plays Ella Tao, while Sam Braun plays Josh and Kyle Clark plays Cam, Teagan’s two boatmates, according to Netflix Tudum.
The cast prepared with a two-week rowing intensive in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada before filming. Martineau told Variety she won a recreational training race against Clark and Braun after they repeatedly fell into the water. She keeps the bragging rights light. The score stands.
Martineau said she was drawn to the series by its spotlight on women in rowing and by its love triangle. In season one, Teagan is caught between Josh and Cam. Martineau said she is torn between Team Josh and Team Cam but ultimately picks Team Teagan.
For season two, she wants the show to build an all-girls rowing team. She said she hopes for a storyline centred on friendship, teamwork and mutual respect. She added that a rowing-based friendship between Teagan and Brittany could feel special and powerful.
Martineau previously appeared in “Bet,” “Kate” and “Star Trek: Section 31,” according to Netflix Tudum.
For fans, this means more time on the water. A new crew. And a choice Teagan still has to make.
