Allison Takes 11 as Worcestershire Thrash Derbyshire at New Road

Worcestershire beat Derbyshire by 175 runs at New Road, Worcester, to close out their Rothesay County Championship Division Two match inside three days. Seamer Ben Allison was the difference, taking 11 wickets in the match including a first-class career-best 6-42 in the second innings, according to BBC Sport.
The County Championship is England's four-day domestic competition played with a red ball, where each team normally bats twice. Worcestershire made 214 and 206. Derbyshire replied with 88 and 157. Chasing 333 to win in their final innings, Derbyshire never got close.
Luis Reece top-scored for Derbyshire in that chase with 49. Allison ripped through the order for 6-42 from his spell. Ben Gibbon gave him strong support with 4-28, his best return of the season.
Derbyshire had started the game on the front foot. They won the toss on 24 September and chose to field first in the match scheduled for 24-27 September, as listed by the ECB. Mohammad Abbas made that call work early, taking 5-63 as Worcestershire were bowled out for 214. Then the game turned sharply. Allison took 5-22 as Derbyshire collapsed to 88.
Worcestershire built on that 126-run first-innings lead in their second turn with the bat. Matthew Waite held the innings together with 74 not out. Abbas worked hard again for 4-65, but 206 was enough to leave Derbyshire needing 333 in the fourth innings of the match.
The win gave Worcestershire 19 points to Derbyshire's three. The fixture was the 55th match of Division Two for the 2026 season. Play was due to start at 10:30 local time each morning, but no fourth day was needed.
What makes this stand out is the balance of the attack. Allison took wickets in bursts in both innings, while Gibbon kept the pressure tight at the other end. For Derbyshire, Abbas finished with nine wickets in the match and Reece showed fight, but the early deficit left too much to do.
