Ella Langley turned down a date request in front of fans in Knoxville, then said she meant it as a joke. The exchange took place outside her show on Sept. 24 and later spread on TikTok.

The man who called out has been identified as influencer Tiki, according to Entertainment Weekly. He shouted to Langley: “Ella, how many likes to take you on a date?” Langley replied: “Not enough in the world.” She then turned away.

Tiki answered from the crowd. “You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take,” he said, as reported by Billboard.

Langley later addressed the moment in the comments under the video. “It was meant to come off as dark humor. You said that and it got quiet and I got nervous,” she wrote. The note apologised for the tone rather than the answer.

Langley is the singer-songwriter behind “Choosin’ Texas.” She first appeared on the Billboard Hot 100, the United States singles chart that combines sales, streams and radio play, in 2024. The Hot 100 is published weekly in the United States.

“Choosin’ Texas” entered that chart at No. 39 in November. It has since spent 23 non-consecutive weeks at No. 1, which means its time at the top was broken by other songs and then regained. Long interruptions of this kind are common when new releases briefly take over.

That 23rd week gave the song the record for the most weeks at No. 1 in the chart’s history, according to Billboard. The run includes a long summer stretch. By early September the song had already logged 21 weeks at the top, including 11 in a row since July 4.

Earlier in the run, at the end of June, its 11th week at No. 1 made it the longest-leading country title on the Hot 100. That country mark was a step on the way to the wider chart record set this month.

For fans watching the video, the chart context explains the noise around a short exchange. Langley is playing to large crowds while holding the top of the country’s main singles chart. The clip itself runs only a few seconds, but the reply in the comments changed its tone. A shouted question outside the venue travelled fast because both moments were caught on camera.
