Bellamy returns to familiar ground as Wales chase first Nations League points in Denmark

Wales face Denmark in Copenhagen on Sunday at 17:00 BST with both sides chasing their first points of the Nations League campaign.
Wales arrived in Denmark after a 1-0 defeat to Portugal in Lisbon. Denmark lost 3-2 to Norway in Oslo on Thursday. Both teams are fighting to stay in League A, the top tier of the Nations League, a European competition played every two years with promotion and relegation between divisions BBC Sport.
Neither side is in form. Wales have no wins in five matches in 2026 and have not won since beating North Macedonia last November. Denmark have not won since beating North Macedonia in the World Cup play-off semi-finals in March. They then missed out on this year's World Cup after losing a penalty shootout to Czechia in the play-offs.
Denmark head coach Brian Riemer has called Sunday's game a must-win.
For Wales head coach Craig Bellamy, this fixture carries history. In 1998 he came off the bench to score an 87th-minute winner against Denmark in Euro 2000 qualifying. It was his first competitive international goal. It also ended Wales' seven-game winless run in competitive matches.
He did it again a decade later. In a November 2008 friendly, Bellamy struck a 77th-minute winner from around 20 yards past goalkeeper Thomas Sorensen to beat Denmark. That same night, Aaron Ramsey made his senior Wales debut.
What makes this stand out is how much has changed since. Bellamy won 78 caps for Wales as a player but never reached a major tournament. Wales have since qualified for three major tournaments in the past decade BBC Sport.
Now the task is to stay among the elite. Bellamy has said Wales' aim is to keep their place at the top table of European football.
A tight game in Copenhagen would do. A win would lift the mood fast.
