SNL brings back Jeremy Culhane's Tucker Carlson for summer movies rundown

Jeremy Culhane brought back his Tucker Carlson on the first Weekend Update of Saturday Night Live season 52 for a run through the summer blockbusters.
Weekend Update is the show’s mid-episode fake news desk, hosted by Colin Jost and Michael Che. Culhane appeared as Carlson to offer his character’s take on the movie business, according to Variety.
It was familiar territory. Culhane debuted the impression in season 51. This was its third outing.
The bit ran about three minutes, according to Mediaite. Culhane’s Carlson started with The Odyssey, Christopher Nolan’s epic, and name-checked its Imax 70mm format, the extra-large film presentation that has become a selling point for event releases.
Then came superheroes. Culhane’s Carlson called the new Spider-Man film “Spider-Man: Brand New Gender.” Jost cut in to say that was not its title.
He kept going. He described Obsession as the left’s idea of a horror movie where a woman is forced to love a man. He equated Minions and Monsters to President Donald Trump’s cabinet. He closed part of the run with a Toy Story 5 joke built around Woody, the cowboy doll who leads the animated franchise.
The movie-business segment also took a swipe at Paramount+, the subscription streaming service owned by Paramount, according to Deadline.
What makes this stand out is the slot. Update guest characters usually return only if they land fast. Three appearances in two seasons gives Culhane’s Carlson a foothold.
