It was also United's first win of the Barclays Women's Super League season. The Women's Super League is the top division of women's football in England. The game was played at the Progress With Unity venue, with a 1pm BST kick-off on Sunday afternoon. Manchester United

Olid went into the weekend backing youth. She reaffirmed her trust in United's young players ahead of the West Ham visit. It was a straightforward message. She believes they can handle league football now, not just in the future. Manchester United

That faith needed a result to go with it. United had been held to a 0-0 draw by West Ham at Chigwell when the sides last met in the league in March. This time they found the extra goal.

It stayed tight to the end. Match data credits United's Simi Awujo with an effort on goal in the fifth minute of added time, before West Ham's Viviane Asseyi committed a foul in the sixth minute of added time. WSL Football The whistle could not come soon enough for the home side.

What makes this stand out is the timing. One win does not settle a season. It does lift pressure and give a new manager and a young group something solid to hold on to.

For fans, this means a first celebration of the league campaign. Ninety minutes, three points, and a new memory together. United will want more of the same.
