Taylor Swift won Video of the Year for “The Fate of Ophelia” at the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday, Sept. 27.

It was her sixth win in the category, extending her record for the most wins in VMAs history, according to Billboard. Host Snoop Dogg presented her with the Moon Person trophy, the awards’ small astronaut figure, to close the ceremony.

Swift dedicated the award to Dolly Parton. She called Parton “the ultimate showgirl” in her acceptance speech.

The dedication carried extra weight. Parton died in late August at age 80 following a cancer battle. The ceremony included a special tribute performance by Kacey Musgraves, listed in MTV’s tip sheet for the show, according to Paramount.

Swift beat five other nominees for the top prize: Ariana Grande, Madonna, Bruno Mars, GENER8ION and Sabrina Carpenter. She entered the night with 11 nominations, the second-highest total behind Madonna’s 13. With her wins on the night, she became the most awarded artist in VMA history.

“The Fate of Ophelia” was released in October 2025. Swift directed the video herself, working with cinematographer Rodrigo Prieto. The song spent 10 weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, the US singles chart, her longest-running chart-topper.

Swift had two other big moments on the night. She accepted the first artist director award, formally called the MTV VMA Artist Director Honors, according to The Hollywood Reporter. She was also nominated for Artist of the Year.

She then premiered another video during the broadcast. “Patient Zero” was directed by Swift and stars actor Colin Farrell.

What makes this stand out is the sweep. One night folded a record win, a directing honour and a premiere into a tribute to Parton, alongside recognition for George Michael and Madonna.
