Prince Edward, the Duke of Kent, 90, took his seat at Sinfonia Smith Square in London on Sunday, 27 September 2026 for an evening of music in memory of his late wife.

The concert was titled "Celebrating Katharine's Legacy". It honoured Katharine, Duchess of Kent, who died in September 2025 aged 92, almost a year to the month before the performance HELLO!.

The Duke did not come alone. He was supported by his younger brother, Prince Michael of Kent, 84, who used a walking aid as he entered the venue.

His three children were there too: Lady Helen Taylor, George, Earl of St Andrews, and Lord Nicholas Windsor. Other family members in the audience included Lady Marina Windsor and Lady Amelia Windsor, and Lord Frederick Windsor with his wife, Sophie Winkleman.

On stage, the focus stayed on young players. The evening was hosted by Alexander Armstrong and featured more than 40 young musicians, including the Future Talent Orchestra.

One piece was written for the occasion. Destiny's Journey, by Future Talent alumnus Sam Nutter, was composed in honour of the Duchess.

Future Talent is the youth music charity she co-founded in 2004. It gives funding for musical expenses and development opportunities to young musicians from low-income backgrounds Future Talent. The charity says it celebrated Katharine one year after her passing.

That work continued after her death. The Duchess left £10,000 to Future Talent in her will.

The Duke of Kent is a first cousin of the late Queen Elizabeth II. He and the Duchess married in 1961, and she later stepped back from full-time royal duties to teach music and support young performers.

What makes this stand out is the family turnout. Three generations of Kents filled the hall, not for a state occasion but for a charity concert built around violins, saxophones and a youth orchestra.
