Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco marked one year of marriage on Sept. 27 by eating a slice of cake saved from their wedding day.

The couple married on Sept. 27, 2025, in Santa Barbara, California. One year on, Blanco shared a photo of the anniversary slice on his Instagram Story, served on a pink plate printed with the words “LOVE IS LOVE,” according to Billboard.

“Year old cake never tasted so good,” he captioned the photo. He followed it with a second Story post, a picture from the wedding ceremony, captioned “1 year down… forever to go…”

Saving the top tier of a wedding cake to eat on the first anniversary is a long-running wedding tradition. Blanco said he had not heard of it until Gomez’s grandmother told him, speaking while guest hosting Today with Jenna & Sheinelle. The couple had chosen a small cake for their reception rather than a large traditional cake, and Blanco said they had six slices left for the anniversary.

That small cake almost did not survive the wedding night. Blanco said actor and guest Martin Short mistook it for a decorated prop and scooped up part of it with his hand. The cake had to be put back together.

Blanco said the pair planned to spend the anniversary resting after months of travel. Speaking in mid-September, he joked he was not sure Gomez had “picked the right guy,” according to People.

The anniversary follows a busy year of music for both. In August, Blanco released Hermoso, a Spanish-language-inspired album that includes “Te Olvido (La La),” his collaboration with Gomez and Becky G. The couple’s joint 2025 album, I Said I Love You First, debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200, the weekly ranking of the most popular albums in the United States. That result gave Blanco his first top 10 album and Gomez her seventh, according to Billboard.

What makes this stand out is how ordinary the celebration was. No new party. No large event. Just a year-old slice, two posts, and a quiet day at home.
