Andrew Schulz Joins Michael B. Jordan, Austin Butler in Miami Vice '85
Andrew Schulz will join Michael B. Jordan and Austin Butler in Universal's Miami Vice '85, the studio's new big-screen version of the 1980s police series, as reported by Deadline. Joseph Kosinski is directing the film.
The project takes its lead from the pilot episode of Miami Vice, the NBC series that ran from 1984 to 1990. Dan Gilroy wrote the screenplay, based on characters created by Anthony Yerkovich. Eric Warren Singer wrote an earlier draft, Deadline reported.
Jordan and Butler play the central pair. They are joined by an ensemble that includes Whitney Peak, Alden Ehrenreich, Camila Morrone, John Leguizamo and Danny Ramirez.
The film will be shot for Imax, the large-format system with extra-tall screens and expanded sound. Universal has set a release date of May 19, 2028, according to Deadline. Dylan Clark and his Dylan Clark Productions are producing with Kosinski, while Sara Scott and Christina Hoffrogge are overseeing for the studio.
Schulz arrives with a busy slate. He recently wrapped production on Running, a sports film for Apple, Deadline reported. His Netflix comedy special Life was filmed at the Beacon Theatre in New York City.
He also co-hosts two podcasts. Flagrant, his show with Akaash Singh, has passed 1.5 billion views on YouTube. He co-hosts Brilliant Idiots with Charlamagne Tha God.
What makes this stand out is the mix. Viewers will recognise Schulz mainly from stand-up and podcasts. Here he steps into a large studio action production built around two of Hollywood's most in-demand leads.
