Lashana Lynch to lead world premiere of dissent at the Young Vic

Lashana Lynch will star in dissent, a new play written and directed by debbie tucker green. The show will open at the Young Vic. It is a world premiere, meaning it has not been fully staged anywhere before.
It will run from 5 March to 24 April 2027. The press night, the performance set aside for reviewers, is set for 11 March WhatsOnStage. That puts the critics in six days after opening. Previews come first. Then the reviews land.
The news came as part of the Young Vic's announcement for its 2026/2027 season. Theatres often set out several shows at once in this way. Details were published on 29 September 2026.
dissent is described in press materials as exploring humanity's capacity for monstrous behaviour WhatsOnStage. No plot beyond that line has been made public. The title is styled in lower case.
tucker green will both write and direct. She is an Olivier Award and BAFTA winner. In practice, that dual credit means the person who wrote the words also shapes the staging.
What makes this stand out is the pairing. Lynch leads the company. tucker green holds text and production together. For audiences, this means one voice from page to stage.
The wider creative team has been named. Ruby Law will design set and costume, covering the space and what performers wear. Paule Constable will design lighting. Christopher Shutt will design sound. Vicki Manderson joins as movement director, working on how performers move.
Further casting is to be revealed. That gap is normal this far out. Ticket prices, on-sale dates and access performances have not yet been confirmed. A second announcement from the theatre will carry those details.
A world premiere brings a simple promise. The script, design, light, sound and movement are made fresh for this room and this cast. Rehearsals will pull those strands together once the full company is set.
The dates are the facts to hold. 5 March for the first show. 11 March for press night. 24 April for the last.
The run lasts almost seven weeks in total. More names and ticket details will follow when the theatre updates the listing.
