Naughty Dog confirms two new Last of Us projects, holds Intergalactic reveal for 2027

Naughty Dog is making two more projects in The Last of Us universe.

Neil Druckmann confirmed the pair in a letter published for The Last of Us Day 2026 on 29 September 2026 Naughty Dog. Both are in very early stages of development. No titles were announced. No formats or release dates were shared either.

Both projects will expand the canon, the official storyline that counts, beyond The Last of Us Part 1 and The Last of Us Part 2 Eurogamer. Those are the two main games in the series so far. In games, canon is the version of events that later stories must follow. Early means early. For newcomers, it helps to realise this is about adding new chapters rather than remaking old ones.

Druckmann also set a clear timetable for the studio's other big bet, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet. It is a new franchise from Naughty Dog, first shown in 2024 and announced on the PlayStation Blog on 12 December 2024 PlayStation Blog. The game is in development for the PlayStation 5 console, Sony's current home console. Naughty Dog will stay quiet about it for the rest of 2026. A full reveal will follow in 2027.

That wait was deliberate. "We need to cook for just a little bit longer," Druckmann said. The 2027 reveal will include a proper look at Jordan's sci-fi adventure. Jordan is the protagonist, the central character players will follow, and the new art puts her front and centre.

That new art gives fans something to study in the meantime. It shows Jordan with her sword, looking out over a wooded area taken over by red alien matter. She holds the blade at her side. Her gaze is fixed on the red growth spreading through the trees. The image is quiet. The threat in the trees is not.

The timetable is now simple to follow. The original announcement was published on 12 December 2024. The update followed on 29 September 2026. The next full showing is dated for 2027.

What makes this stand out is the shape of the slate. One entirely new universe is being held back until the studio is ready to show it properly. Two more stories in a familiar universe are only just starting to take shape. One wait gets shorter next year, the other two have barely begun.
