The Love Hypothesis gets a sequel as next film starts to take shape

Olive Smith and Adam Carlsen are getting a second act.
Author Ali Hazelwood has announced The Two-Body Problem, a sequel to The Love Hypothesis, with publication set for Feb. 2, 2027, according to The Hollywood Reporter. MRC is already developing a film version of the new book for Amazon MGM Studios, the trade also reported.
The timing is tight. The book announcement followed the premiere of The Love Hypothesis film on Sept. 23 on Prime Video, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The first film is a romantic comedy from Amazon MGM Studios and MRC, as listed by The Hollywood Reporter, and it streams exclusively on Prime Video, according to Deadline.
Lili Reinhart and Tom Bateman lead that film as Olive Smith and Adam Carlsen, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Claire Scanlon directed it. Elizabeth Cantillon produced it. Sarah Rothschild wrote the screenplay, according to Elle.
The screen story started on the page. The Love Hypothesis was published in 2021 as Hazelwood’s debut novel, according to The Hollywood Reporter. It began as Star Wars fan fiction centred on Rey and Kylo Ren, the trade also reported. Since then Hazelwood’s books have sold more than 10 million copies worldwide.
Work on the first adaptation moved fast. Casting began in mid-July 2025, according to Deadline. Inside Amazon MGM Studios, executive Lucia Ledonne, 34, helped shepherd the project starring Reinhart, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
For fans, this means the story now runs on two tracks. Readers get Olive and Adam back in print next February. Viewers have a follow-up film already in development.
