Olive Smith and Adam Carlsen are coming back.

Author Ali Hazelwood has announced The Two-Body Problem as the sequel to The Love Hypothesis, her best-selling novel. She revealed the title in an Instagram post that showed the book cover, Deadline reported on September 29. The new book is set for publication on Feb. 2, 2027. That is about four months after the announcement.

The screen version is already lining up. MRC, a production company, is developing a film based on The Two-Body Problem for Amazon MGM Studios. In development is industry shorthand for an early stage. Scripts are explored, deals are put in place, but no filming or release date has been set.

The sequel stays with the same central pair. Olive Smith and Adam Carlsen return as the focus of The Two-Body Problem. Olive was introduced as a graduate student in The Love Hypothesis. The original story is described as a STEM romance, meaning a romance set among scientists and students working in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

Viewers just met this couple on screen. The Love Hypothesis film premiered on September 23 on Prime Video, Amazon's streaming service. Lili Reinhart plays Olive. Tom Bateman plays Adam Carlsen. Claire Scanlon directed the film, The Hollywood Reporter reported.

That timing matters. The book sequel was announced within a week of the film's arrival. The first film is a romantic comedy, meaning a love story told with humour. The original novel built a large readership as a bestseller. It also earned a place on Deadline's list of 48 of the most anticipated movies of 2026.

The announcement came straight from the author. An Instagram reveal with cover art speaks directly to readers. For a general audience, the starting point is simple. Watch the first film on Prime Video or pick up the first book, then wait for February.

For fans, this means two dates to track. The first is February, when the new book arrives. The second is still open, with the follow-up film in early work at MRC for Amazon MGM Studios. No cast or premiere plan for the sequel has been confirmed.

The pattern will look familiar. A popular book moves to streaming. If viewers find it, the publisher and studio move quickly to keep the story going. Here, both moves were confirmed together. The book has a date. The film has a home and a developer, and that is where the confirmed details end.
