UTA Signs Filmmaker Will Ropp After SXSW Debut Brian

UTA has signed writer, director and actor Will Ropp for representation in all areas, Deadline reported on 29 September 2026.

The deal means the agency organisation will handle his work across film and other creative fields. Representation in all areas is agency language for handling film, television and related opportunities together. He continues to be represented by management company Entertainment 360 and law firm Felker, McGinnis & Ryan.

Ropp stepped behind the camera for his first cinema-length feature with Brian, a coming-of-age comedy about growing up and finding direction. The film premiered at SXSW, where many independent features first meet audiences and buyers. It stars Ben Wang alongside William H. Macy, Randall Park and Natalie Morales. Seth Meyers served as executive producer, a senior backing role that supports a production creatively and financially.

Brian engages with mental health issues inside its comedy story, Variety reported in March. That subject matter shapes the central character and his relationships. It is a demanding theme for a debut. The casting pairs a young central performer with long-established screen actors.

A second feature is already moving through the system. Dedicated to Morris Burke is in post-production, the editing, sound, music and picture-finishing phase that follows the shoot. Da'Vine Joy Randolph stars as a widow who investigates the dedication printed in her late husband's final novel. Kate McKinnon, Amy Sedaris and Alison Pill co-star in supporting roles. Post-production is slow work. It decides the final shape long before any release date is set.

Ropp arrived at directing after working in front of the camera. His acting credits include the sports drama The Way Back, the school-shooting drama The Fallout and the Vietnam-era story The Greatest Beer Run Ever. In The Greatest Beer Run Ever he played Kevin McLoone, Deadline reported in September 2021. That mix covers studio-backed drama and smaller character work.

For viewers meeting his name for the first time, the path is straightforward. An actor tries directing. One premiere leads to another project. An agency signing brings business support for what comes next.

What makes this stand out is the pace, with a debut premiered and a follow-up already finished shooting.
