The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has set its highest-ever concurrent player count on Steam. Nearly 120,000 people were playing at the same time at the time of reporting, which placed it ninth among the most-played games on Steam, according to figures reported by Eurogamer. Concurrent players means the number of people online in a game at the same moment.

That new high beats every previous peak tracked by SteamDB, a site that monitors Steam player numbers. The game reached 92,000 concurrent players around its original launch in 2015. It then hit 103,000 in January 2020, when Netflix's Witcher show was at its most popular, and 89,000 in December 2022, when the next-gen update, a free upgrade for newer consoles and PCs, was released.

The surge follows the release of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Remastered, released on 29 September 2026. CD Projekt Red says the new version brings enhanced visuals and performance improvements, meaning sharper graphics and smoother running on modern machines, according to CD Projekt Red. The remaster was announced on 25 August 2026 as an array of improvements including upgrades to visuals.

The Remastered edition launched on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. On PC it is available via Steam, GOG and Epic, the three main computer game shops, as listed by The Witcher. It also launched on Nintendo Switch 2 on 29 September, in a version that takes advantage of Nintendo Switch 2 features, according to CD Projekt Red.

The Steam total covers only one shop. It does not include players on GOG, Epic Games Store, PlayStation, Switch 2 and Xbox. The full player count across all platforms will be higher.

What makes this stand out is the timing. A fan favourite first released in 2015 is climbing back into a top ten usually filled with newer online games. Eleven years on, it took a fresh release to set a fresh record.
