Catherine, Princess of Wales, brought back diamonds first seen 11 years ago for a rugby outing in Leeds.

She and William, Prince of Wales, visited Headingley Rugby Stadium, home of the Leeds Rhinos club, on September 29, 2026, Town & Country reported. The trip centered on sport off the field. Kensington Palace, the couple's office, said they came to learn how the club and the Leeds Rhinos Foundation are changing lives through sport.

Catherine is patron of the Rugby Football League, the body that runs rugby league in Britain. Rugby league is a separate code from rugby union, played with 13 players a side and a faster pace. The patron role is ceremonial but hands-on, with regular visits to clubs and community programs.

For this visit, the princess wore her Mappin & Webb 'Empress' diamond earrings. She first wore them for Princess Charlotte's christening in 2015. The earrings belong to a set with an Empress Diamond Pendant necklace, both made in white gold, according to Elle. The carriage-style earrings retail for £3,750, about $4,933, according to Yahoo.

The Leeds stop also carried a quieter story. Former Rhinos star Rob Burrow died in June 2024 after living with motor neurone disease, known in the United States as ALS. William opened the Rob Burrow Centre for Motor Neurone Disease in Leeds, named for the player and built to care for people living with the illness.

What makes this stand out for fans is the reuse. Royal jewelry often returns for new occasions, and an 11-year gap is long even by palace standards. Paired with a community sports visit, it kept attention on the club and its foundation work.
