Curry Barker's horror-comedy Anything But Ghosts will open in cinemas on 7 May 2027.

Focus Features and Blumhouse-Atomic Monster set the date, Variety reported on 29 September 2026. Focus Features holds worldwide rights to the film. Universal Pictures International will handle distribution outside the United States and Canada.

Barker directs from a script he wrote with Cooper Tomlinson. The pair also star as two wannabe ghosthunters who get in over their heads as things spiral out of control, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The cast also includes Bryce Dallas Howard, Aaron Paul, Violet McGraw and Chris Reinacher.

It is Barker's follow-up to Obsession. Barker has said the two films share the same universe, Deadline reported in May. That link gives audiences a familiar world. It does not require having seen the earlier film.

Anything But Ghosts was written, sold and shot before Obsession became a phenomenon. Barker and Tomlinson closed the script deal and finished filming ahead of that breakout, The Hollywood Reporter noted. The new film was made for around $5 million.

The contrast with Obsession is sharp. Focus Features acquired Obsession out of the 2025 Toronto Film Festival for $15 million. It went on to earn more than $500 million in global ticket sales and ranks as the No. 5 horror release of all time worldwide, The Hollywood Reporter reported.

Behind the camera, Jason Blum produces for Blumhouse-Atomic Monster. Roy Lee and Steven Schneider produce for Spooky Pictures, with Adam Hendricks and Greg Gilreath producing for Divide/Conquer. The film was made in association with Image Nation and That's a Bad Idea. Barker, Tomlinson, Daniel Bekerman and Image Nation's Ben Ross serve as executive producers.

Universal already holds Barker's next original feature. That keeps the film-maker inside the same studio family for two pictures running.

For fans, this means a low-budget chiller-comedy with a big-studio launch. A $5 million production gets a full worldwide release and an early May date. That is the machinery working exactly as designed.
