A new Paranormal Activity film will open in cinemas on 21 May, Jason Blum and James Wan revealed during a 90-minute presentation at New York Comic-Con, Variety.

Blum and Wan took the stage together to lay out the coming slate from Blumhouse Atomic Monster. The session covered sequels, reboots and new titles. Horror, in short, remains the core business.

Much of the talk centred on Other Mommy. The film opened to negative reviews yet still delivered major box office success, Variety. That split between critics and ticket buyers drove much of the online debate. The title stuck.

Blum told the room that Wan had pushed for the film to be called Other Mother. He was outvoted, and Other Mommy won the day, Variety. Online critics had questioned the choice, asking why the film did not use Other Mother for the rhyme and for the parallel to Coraline. Blum’s story gave that argument an inside edge.

Casting news followed. Kristen Bell has joined Violent Night 2 opposite David Harbour in the role of Mrs. Clause, Variety. The sequel brings back Harbour as a very untraditional Santa. Bell now steps into the story as his wife.

The panel also touched on the return of the Blair Witch. The new film comes from Blumhouse and Atomic Monster, Deadline. It is still untitled. Lionsgate has set it for a theatre release on 24 September 2027, The Hollywood Reporter.

For fans, this means the calendar is filling fast. A Paranormal Activity entry in May, then a Blair Witch film in September 2027. Two familiar franchises, back in cinemas.
