Monsieur Periné are stepping away after nearly two decades together.

The Colombian band announced an indefinite hiatus on 29 September, saying its members will part ways for an unspecified period to take individual space, according to Billboard. The break is indefinite.

The group shared the decision in an Instagram post that said "We're parting ways." Guerrera PR & Marketing confirmed the hiatus. In its Spanish-language announcement the band wrote "Necesitamos este espacio," meaning we need this space, and closed with "Gracias por ser parte de esta historia," meaning thanks for being part of this story, as reported by Infobae and Caracol.

Eight final performances are still scheduled. The run starts on 29 September in New Orleans and ends on 29 November in Puerto Rico.

Monsieur Periné formed in Bogotá in 2007. The group is led by vocalist Catalina García and multi-instrumentalist Santiago Prieto, and its sound draws together pop, jazz and rock. Its debut album, Hecho a Mano, arrived five years after the band formed.

The band won the Latin Grammy for best new artist with Caja de Música (2015). It later won the Latin Grammy for best alternative music album, the category for music outside mainstream Latin pop and rock, with Bolero Apocalíptico (2023). Its follow-up, Instrucciones Para Ser Feliz, released in April, was nominated for a Latin Grammy for best contemporary pop album.

Its best-known song in the United States is "Nuestra Canción" featuring Vicente García. The track reached No. 13 on Billboard Hot Latin Songs, the US ranking of the most popular Latin songs, and No. 9 on Latin Streaming Songs. It also reached No. 1 on the TikTok US chart, according to WLRN.

For fans, this means the November date is the last confirmed chance to see them together. Bolero Apocalíptico mixed songs about love and humour with the dangers of climate change. The band has not announced solo projects or a return date.
